讲座题目：Linear and Nonlinear Optical Properties of Electronic Materials

A wide range of modern technologies build on our ability to design optical properties of material structures. Today’s communication systems are based on fibers and active optical components, and areas like solid state lightning and solar energy systems are evolving very fast. Furthermore, optical techniques are very versatile for materials characterization, allowing us to probe a broad spectrum of properties under various conditions. This presentation starts with a short overview of activities at Department of Physics and Nanotechnology, Aalborg University, followed by examples of optical characterizations of different material structures from our research projects, such as electrical contacts in power modules and materials for solar energy systems. Applications of plasmonic structures to tailor optical absorption and emission properties of metal surfaces are discussed. A part of the presentation will focus on applications of nonlinear optical techniques for characterization of surfaces and interfaces in thin films, metallic quantum wells, and semiconductor nanocrystals.
